UK Student Visa Explained: Costs, Timelines & Tips (2025 Edition)

What is the UK Student Visa?

The UK Student Visa (previously known as the Tier 4 visa) is a visa that allows international students to pursue full-time courses at licensed Student Route sponsors (i.e., approved universities and colleges in the UK).

Who Needs a Student Visa?

You will need a Student Visa if you meet the following criteria: – You’re 16 or older. – You want to study in the UK for more than six months. – You’ve received an offer from a UK university (with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies or CAS letter). – You meet English language and financial requirements.

Documents Required for a UK Student Visa (2025)

Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from a UK university – Valid passport – Recent passport-sized photographs – Proof of funds: A bank statement showing you have enough money for tuition and living expenses: – For London: £1,334/month (for up to 9 months) – For outside London: £1,023/month (for up to 9 months) – English proficiency test results (IELTS, PTE, or equivalent) – TB test results (if applicable for your country) – Online visa application form – Payment of visa fee and health surcharge

UK Student Visa Processing Time (2025)

Can You Work on a UK Student Visa?

Yes! You can work: – Up to 20 hours per week during term time – Full-time during holidays – Part-time or internship roles on-campus or off-campus

What Happens After Graduation?

After graduation, you can apply for the Graduate Route (Post-Study Work Visa), which allows you to stay and work in the UK for: – 2 years after a bachelor’s or master’s degree – 3 years after completing a PhD
