Test Format & Duration
The PTE Academic exam & PTE Core Exam is a two-hour, computer-based test divided into three main parts:
PTE Academic exam
Part 1: Speaking & Writing (54–67 minutes)
This section, the longest of the test, combines your speaking and writing skills with seven
different question types, focusing on tasks similar to those encountered in academic
environments. It includes seven types of questions such as reading aloud, repeating sentences,
describing images, and essay writing.

Part 2: Reading (29–30 minutes)
This part includes five different question types to test your reading comprehension. One item

integrated task.

Part 3: Listening (30–43 minutes)
In this section, you’ll respond to questions based on audio and video clips that play
automatically. It includes eight different item types, and test-takers are encouraged to take
notes while listening as clips are played only once.

PTE Core exam

This is the longest part of the PTE Academic test, lasting approximately 50 minutes. It includes
seven different question types.
In this section, your Speaking and Writing skills are assessed through tasks that reflect the kind
of English commonly used in everyday situations. .
